The American People are tired of waiting on politicians to fund the Wall.
Wednesday night the Senate passed a “stopgap” measure to continue funding the government and avert a “shutdown” later this week. I mean, why stop caving now that you’re almost gone, right? My disgust with Mitch McConnell’s Republican Senate, and especially lame duck Paul Ryan’s Republican House, knows no bounds.
But President Trump—the man who promised the American People a Wall—made a misstep too. He said in his live meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, that he’d allow the government to shut down if Congress failed to approve $5 billion in border security funding—including for the wall.
We all cheered!
…but the White House has since backed off.
In other words, Trump himself backed down—at least temporarily—although I strongly disagree with him, it’s hard to blame him, seeing that he’s getting no support from the worthless Republican House or Senate. Trump is already looking elsewhere, and on Wednesday revived his position that the military will build the Wall.
That’s fine with me. I’ve brought the “military” option up in recent weeks, and I have no doubt that it’s fine with the American People. We don’t care how you do it, just GET ‘ER DONE, Mr. President!
Trump is also threatening to kill any Democrat infrastructure legislation in the coming year unless he gets the money to build the Wall. We’ll see if that goes anywhere, but realistically, if I were the Democrats, I’d take that trade. There’s no way in hell they’d hand Trump a win on the Wall.
Trump has taken a lot of “friendly fire” over backing down from his shutdown statement, and I do understand their frustration. Conservative supporters Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and others weighed in yesterday. Ann, though, was unnecessarily harsh, and in reality, she simply can not know what Trump will or won’t do.
And knowing that Trump has essentially been a one-man army—being attacked from all directions for the past two years—respect and appreciation are in order, not insults. So shame on Ann and some others doing foxhole freak outs.
In response to the President’s backstep on allowing the government to “shut down” if he doesn’t get Wall funding, others weighed in.
On “Fox & Friends,” House Freedom Caucus Chair Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said the American people want the wall, and they see that Trump is getting “bad advice.”
“If we’re not going to fight now, when are we going to fight?” Meadows said, pointing out that getting the wall will be even more difficult after Democrats take the House in January. ” Now is the time to fight.”
I totally, one hundred percent agree with Congressman Meadows.
So where does that leave us? I believe that President Trump will indeed order the military to build the wall if necessary. Can anyone stop that? I must admit to some doubts though, as to his resolve in this matter, seeing that he allowed pip squeak judges to stop him from implementing his travel ban on nations that export terrorism.
He’s also allowed an outrageous “witch hunt”—led by Robert Mueller—to distract from his “Make America Great Again” agenda for two years now, so he’s shown reticence at times to use Executive power. Mr. President, I understand that Tweets can have great strategic power, but they are no substitute for action.
So in short, the only thing we can trust the Republican Congress and Senate to do is sell us out. They will soon be gone, and it will get worse—likely much worse when the Democrats come in. We can BANK on the fact they will sell us out.
As for President Trump, I have great respect for him, as so many Americans do. But frankly, I do agree with Ann Coulter that there should have been an all-out press to get the Wall up from Day One of the Trump Presidency. I just have not seen a great urgency to get this number one priority accomplished.
And yes, I’m leaving room here that I don’t know the depths of what Trump is up against, and don’t know all that’s going on behind the scenes.
All I know is that we’re two years into the Trump Presidency and Priority One—the Wall—appears to be far behind schedule.
Enter the American People! Triple-amputee, Purple Heart recipient Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage, Jr. of Florida has started a GoFundMe campaign to fund the Wall!
As of the publishing of this post, over 5 Million dollars (and quickly rising!) of the one Billion dollar goal has been raised! Not bad at all. God bless this dedicated veteran!
I have donated to this great cause, and I urge you to do the same.
Here is the “We the People Will Fund the Wall” GoFundMe Page
“If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall. That equates to roughly 5 Billion Dollars, even if we get half, that’s half the wall. We can do this.”Brian Kolfage, triple amputee U.S. military veteran
Kolfage wrote that the campaign has been in touch with the Trump administration “to secure a point of contact where all funds will go upon completion.”
Perhaps this is right where we’re supposed to be—trusting not in politicians (though there are still a few—like President Trump—we still respect), but trusting in God, and in the American People to stand up and lead once again.
I am heartened by what veteran Brian Kolfage and the American People are doing, and I’m proud to join them. I hope that you will join us too.
I welcome your comments.
