Shut Up and Vote, Senator Mitt!
Well, it didn’t take him long.
And forgive me, I can barely contain myself.
Incoming Senator and failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney took a shot at President Trump today, attacking his character in an Op-Ed piece—Mitt Romney: The President Shapes the Public Character of the Nation. Trump’s Character Falls Short—in the Washington Post.
Let me get several things off my chest before I dive into the “substance” of Romney’s claims. Let’s start with the biggest elephant in the room—Romney choked in HIS run for President, blowing the last two debates in his bid to appear “Presidential”! Ironic, isn’t it.
We all saw Romney wipe the floor with Barack Obama in their first debate. Even CNN admitted it!
Then he decided to go kinder and gentler in the second debate, so he could look… Presidential!
And in the third and final debate, Romney really went soft, apparently thinking he was “ahead” in the polls, and Obama knocked him around. It didn’t help Romney that debate moderator Candy Crowley helped defend Obama. But a strong man never needs help from a liberal debate moderator! The whole thing was painful to watch.
I won’t even get into the fact that once Obama became president, his team used Romney’s Massachusetts socialized health care plan as a model for Obamacare. Romney even admitted it.
To add insult to injury, after a bitter Republican primary fight in 2016, where Romney called Trump a “fraud,” and Trump countered by saying Romney “choked” in his race against Obama, President Trump held out the olive branch for Romney, dining with him and later endorsing him for Senate—yes, the same office he is now entering. The same office that gives him the relevancy to fire off his attacks on this president.
If it weren’t for President Trump, Romney would be forever known as a failed presidential candidate. Trump RESURRECTED this guy! And this is how he is repaid?!
Just… wow! This guy has nothing else if not chutzpah!
Okay… Take a deep breath, Patrick… Okay, I’ll ease off on the exclamation points 🙂
So let’s deal with some of the “substance” of Romney’s Op-Ed, because it’s important. As the title says, according to Romney, presidents shape the character of a nation, and Trump’s character supposedly falls short.
I know there are many “Never Trumpers,” members of the media, and even some Christians who like to repeat this, and frankly I’d need another post to explore the depth of my feelings on this issue, but for now I’ll just say, “Bull—!”
So many Americans are hung up on the appearance of character, without paying attention to character itself. Romney falls right into this.
It’s so easy to look at this president’s past sex life, his self confidence (where his detractors see only ego), and his habit of counterattacking, while ignoring those who attack him. These are points of surface attacks on him, and are, in my opinion, mostly ridiculous.
The “Substance” of Romney’s Attacks
But many of his detractors—Romney’s attacks being a perfect example—go beyond behavioral issues and claim that some of President Trump’s policy decisions display a lack of character.
But to me, their attacks just expose them as swamp creatures.
As an example, in Romney’s attack piece, he says, “The Trump presidency made a deep descent in December. The departures of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly, the appointment of senior persons of lesser experience, the abandonment of allies who fight beside us, and the president’s thoughtless claim that America has long been a ‘sucker’ in world affairs all defined his presidency down.”
Let’s examine this for a moment. The reason Trump got rid of Mattis and Kelly is because they didn’t mesh well with his way of seeing things. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Mattis disagreed with Trump’s decision to pull our soldiers out of Syria. Trump’s desire to get the U.S. out of endless foreign wars is well known, and is certainly no surprise to Mattis.
Trump is merely going through a “cleansing” of elite insiders on his team, as he sees the lay of the land in D.C., and as he becomes more and more confident of the way he wants and needs to go. This is rattling the insiders.
Trump is not “abandoning allies” either, as Romney claims. He is simply making them pay their fair share for the protection we provide. Who doesn’t want to get paid for their work?
And America has indeed been a “sucker” in world affairs, as President Trump has pointed out.
Romney and his ilk are alarmed that Trump supported “Brexit.” In Romney’s piece, he says, “America is strongest when our arms are linked with other nations. We want a unified and strong Europe, not a disintegrating union.”
But all people who love freedom and independence should support a “disintegrating” European Union. Why would someone in say, Naples, Italy, want someone in Brussels telling them how to live?
People—watch what is happening, and the way that the media is influencing you to think! They will never report Trump’s moves in an objective way. He is the garlic to the vampire.
And Mitt—you’re an embarrassment. I’m sorry I voted for your weak and vindictive a—. You’re the reason America had to suffer through Obama for eight years! And now you want to pontificate about presidential character?!
Apparently, the Unites States Senate always has to have a John McCain, or a Jeff Flake—turncoats to the cause of liberty. That’s unfortunate. But God willing, the People will prevail over corrupt “leaders.”
I welcome your feedback.
